Let’s face it—it’s easy to find a mediocre deli sandwich, but it’s much more challenging to find a terrific one. That’s why downtown Sacramentans are so glad the Sandwich Shop is in business. The establishment’s sole focus is the construction of great sandwiches, and the lunch line-up at the Spot is testament to its success. Located in a darling, renovated historic building along busy Q Street, the Spot has one of the cutest porches around, and customers can plop down with their “Big Slick” (hot turkey, cranberry and cream cheese) or BBQ Beef sandwich and watch the world go by as they fill their bellies. Other popular choices include the “Sac Bee,” packed with marinated chicken, bacon, avocado and cheese, and a wonderful, chunky chicken salad sandwich. The breads and rolls are fresh-baked, the staff is upbeat, and service is lickety-split—all good reasons to visit this friendly, family-owned sandwich shop. — Kira O'Donnell
