City: Sacramento Price Range: Moderate Cuisine: Asian: Southeast Special Features: Bar Scene, Good for Groups, Late-Night Dining, Romantic, Singles Scene, Small Plates Thai food goes late night at Level-Up Lounge, created by the same folks who own Thai Basil restaurant. The lounge—a staircase away from the restaurant—has its own distinct mood with thumping electronica and house music and a dark setting illuminated by hues of club lighting. The flavorful and energetic street–food scene of Southeast Asia is the inspiration for the diverse menu. The small-plate selections range duck salad rolls (strips of grilled duck, sweet ginger, cucumber and pea sprouts), Indian-style samosas and lobster potstickers. Medium-size dishes include crabmeat dumplings, spicy octopus salad and New Zealand lamb chops. If you’ve come by for a full dinner, indulge in the braised short ribs coated with Korean–style barbecue sauce, steamed sea bass with baby bok choy or the Mr. T (grilled T-bone steak). Level-Up serves breakfast starting at midnight. Go ahead and order pancakes with that mai tai. Cindy Arora
