This is not where one goes for a quiet dinner with the folks on a Wednesday night, because it may be difficult to order when someone is screaming the karaoke rendition of “Barracuda” by Heart. The restaurant has been in the area for about 25 years and has a loyal following for its decent and affordable grub, including a large selection of appetizer munchies, such as Mexi-skins or nachos. It also has ginormous burritos (gringo verde comes with lean pork and green chili sauce), chimichangas, tacos, enchiladas and a shrimp Diablo that arrives sautéed in a habañero sauce. But staff at Hacienda Del Rio is most proud of its reputation as a place where locals come to let loose. It’s got a large selection of tequilas, monthly tequila tastings and a lethal triple-shot margarita. Throughout the weekend there’s a live band, a DJ on Saturdays and munchies served until last call. On Sunday morning, indulge in a lively brunch and, during the week the daily happy hour includes a free nacho bar. Cindy Arora |
