Caffe Latte has been reincarnated through the years from a sushi bar, Chinese restaurant to—most currently—a California style cafe. But a remnant of its culinary past lingers on the menu with a side dish of fried rice (shrimp or chicken). Why? Customers still want it, staff admits, and that’s enough to keep it on the menu. The neighborhood cafe sits in a quiet shopping center on Greenhaven Drive and has all the important ingredients needed to be a hot spot for locals: espresso drinks, beer and wine, affordable lunch specials, comfortable surroundings and smiley pancakes. It serves breakfast every day until noon, including traditional French toast, corned beef hash and steak and eggs. Lunch is standard with soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and an Italian sausage sandwich (served with marinara sauce, Parmesan and pepper jack cheese on a steak roll). Dinner is made up of pasta dishes, chicken and steak entrees and a Porterhouse pork chop. You’ll find a laid- back environment with friendly and accommodating staff who will do what they can (including serve fried rice) to make you happy. Cindy Arora

Insider tip: The half sandwich and cup of clam chowder is a steal at $5.95.
